5 Steps to Save Successfully During America Saves Week 2017

America Saves Week 2017

By Tammy G. Bruzon, America Saves

America Saves Week is coming up on Feb. 27 – March 4, 2017. This is an annual opportunity for people to assess their savings and take action to improve their financial health. We encourage savers to save even more to reach their goals faster. For people who are living paycheck to paycheck and struggle with saving, this week is the time to get your ducks in a row, set a goal, make a plan, and start saving automatically.

America Saves Week is run by America Saves and the American Savings Education Council. Started in 2007, the week is an annual opportunity for organizations to promote good savings behavior and a chance for individuals to assess their own saving status.

This America Saves Week, use these five simple steps to help yourself save successfully:

  1. Assess Your Savings

Your savings plan needs a checkup. Just like your health or your car, you should assess your savings regularly to make sure your priorities are on the right track. Complete this simple 12-question money saving assessment to see where you stand and help you plan for the future.

  2. Evaluate your Savings Preparedness

The Saver Checklist measures attributes of successful savers. So give yourself a pat on the back and check the items off the list that you have accomplished already. The checklist will help you evaluate where your savings habits need strengthening so you can crush your financial goals.

  3. Take the America Saves Pledge

Join more than a half a million American Savers who have already committed to save with the America Saves Pledge. People with a savings plan are twice as likely to save for emergencies and retirement than those without one. When you take the pledge, you can opt in for text message tips and reminders to help hold you accountable for your goals.

  4. Share Your Savings Goal

Say cheese! Participate in the 2017 #ImSavingFor photo contest. Share a selfie or video that shows what you’re saving for on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Don’t forget to check americasaves.org to learn more about contest prizes and entry details. Who said savings can’t be fun?

  5. Make Your Savings Social

Join the movement on social media. Are you on Twitter or Facebook? Encourage your friends, family, and colleagues to save this week. Take the opportunity to make your savings pledge public and toot your own horn for taking action. Consider joining one of the many Twitter chats this week to get real-time savings tips and advice from experts and your peers.
